Qualifications required for a Start-up Visa
Investor:
- To obtain permanent residence in Canada, foreign entrepreneurs must propose an innovative, scaling start-up business, approved by a designated organization.
- A designated angel investor group / venture capital fund / incubator in Canada confirming that it is investing in a qualifying business Eligibility criterion set by Canada Government and they will issue you a Letter of Support.
- You must submit this Letter of Support with your application. Failure to submit a letter or to meet any of the eligibility requirements will result in your application being rejected.
- Up to 5 people can apply for a Start-up Visa as owners of a single business.
- Each applicant must hold at least 10 percent of the voting rights in the business.
- The nominated organization and the applicant must together hold more than 50 percent of the voting rights in the enterprise.
Applicant’s Eligibility:
- Receive a Letter of Support from a designated investment institution, venture capital funds or business incubator.
- Working experience and/or Business Experience.
- Achieve a minimum language score of CLB 5 for all four English or French skills (CLB: Canadian Language Benchmark—a certificate used to assess English language ability in Canada).
- Post Secondary Education.
- Have enough settlement funds (transferable and available funds, free of debts or other obligations and excluding any investment made by a designated entity into their business).
